2009 Getrag F23 - no reverse lights

Is there information available on where the switch is located and if it’s able to DIY? I removed the bulb from the reverse light housing and tested it on the rear side marker and it works, but when the car is on and in reverse, the rear lights for it do not work. Thank you.

Is this new?
Trailer hitch wiring?
Any work done?
Check continuity from socket to ground?
12V to socket?
corrosion in socket?

Any indication of melted plastic in the reverse bulb holders. Check fuse #46 in the under hood fuse box.

thanks, I haven’t dug in too far yet. There was a hitch when I got it but no trailer wiring that I can find and the factory stuff doesn’t look messed with. I will have to do those checks.

there is some trace of black in the bulb socket. The previous owner had an LED bulb shoved in there which I tested by putting it on the rear side marker. I am guessing he was chasing this problem before he sold it to me.

Do you guys happen to know if at night; when unlocking with the remote; are the reverse lights turned on for extra light? Other GM vehicles I’ve seen do this but unsure on the HHR. Thank you all for the great help and quick responses. I will do all this when I can tomorrow.

My 2011 doesn’t light up the reverse lights at night either lock or unlock, just reverse.
You might want to get proper 921 incandescent bulbs for the reverse lights.
