2010 HHr - electrical issue? (First post.)

I was on a road trip this weekend, and several times when starting, I got a couple of clicks before it turned over. I also noticed that when I step on the brakes at night, the headlights dim for a second...

Related? Ideas?

Have you checked the connections at the battery? Has anything been added recently that uses power?

ZonedAgain May 23, 2011 02:14 PM

(Had to go and check) Nothing new electronically, battery connections appear clean and read 12(+) V across post clamps.

It kinda reminds me of a solenoid not having enough power to engage, but so far it has turned over after a click or two or three. A little worried that the wife will get stranded somewhere...

Only 15K miles on it.

have you checked alternator output

Go to the dealer and get a new battery. My 08 did the same thing and the dealer said there was dead cells in the battery. This all was covered under warrentee and done and took care of in 15 minutes i was there when they opened there doors in the morning so they got me in and out the battery is covered under 3/36 if im not mistaken I have had a bad battery brand new off the shelf and also had a original ford battery go 5 years

davidjb: a little fuzzy on how to do that. Actually, I'm not even sure how to get that silly plastic cover off the engine. (Haven't had to mess with this car much.)

Nurseman27: Wouldn't my battery voltage reading be under 12V if it had a dead cell?

Nurseman27 May 23, 2011 04:35 PM

True as was mine it may even test good but give it time and it will die on out and show bad the dealer told me they replaced mine testing good and the issue was fixed its under warrentee it would not hurt to try:twothumbs:

You need to have the battery load tested to see if the battery is bad voltage checked at the battery with a volt meter means little.

GTO Mike thank you that's what they did to mine and i could not think out what it was called even though it was testing good they load tested it and it was replaced i had 40,000 miles on it but never drained the batter dead which will kill out a battery fast
