2011 dash air vent louvers

Mine are broken. Stupid and cheap design. Where is the best place to get the basic black aftermarket replacement?

aradmahogany 02-12-2017 08:25 PM

May I ask how you broke them? They arent any more stupid or cheap than any other manufacturer, Hell even the Mclaren 670S, a 185,000 dollar car, comes with cheap plastic air vents. Anyway, I may suggest either a gm parts direct or junkyard, I dont think that part would be highly sought after in the aftermarket.

I didn't break them. I just bought the car and they are broken. For a part that is meant to be "pushed" and adjusted they seem cheap to me. I took them out and the design is not good. I'm looking for a part number for something like GM parts direct. May check the junkyard too.

Thanks,

There's some part numbers in this thread. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...ay-open-54066/
And the part #s are also in our Commonly Used Parts Numbers sticky thread.

You just have too look.

I just can't imagine a way to break them in normal use. Somebody may have misread the directions for removing the waterfall.

I'm at 268,000 miles , no breakage of my vents! Great link Don! I noticed all four are different

Let me see here,........an 11 year old car...you just bought......and you don't know how it was used by the previous owner.....and they are broken.......and they are cheap in design and materials?

Many more on the road that are still functioning properly, than complaints about them.

You can however, purchase them from a salvage yard for pennies on the dollar..... if you are so inclined. But you MAY break them upon removal, since they are cheap:lol::D:clappy:

Actually only a 6 year old car. I also can't imagine them breaking under normal responsible adult use... but maybe previous owner had one of those cell phone holders on it and it got tweaked. Or had kids. Or drunk friends. Or???

But let's not insult the OP, current owner and member for 4+ years.

aradmahogany 02-13-2017 12:37 PM

As a member for 4 years he should know we are all just messing around. We tend to do that alot here! In the end we do offer helpful information, though. I hope OP understands! and good luck finding the replacement; based on the part prices I would suggest going to a local junkyard if possible.

Yeah, I don't mind the ribbing or messing around. I had a 2006 with about 246K miles that blew a head gasket. This is my 2nd HHR, and this one is a 2011. The 06 never had issues with the vent louvers, so yes the original owner did it. Might have been a young passenger messing with them since the 2 that are broken are the center right and passenger by the door.

My complaint is with the thin piece of plastic linking the two louvers together and that is what is broken where the "ball and socket" joint is. I removed the waterfall with no problem and took out the 3 screws from the back holding the vent in place. Had it out in 2 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback and Thanks for the links too!
