Rattling under the hood

There is a bracket directly behind the big plastic housing that has the air filter in it. What does it hold in place? maybe 2 inches wide at the most and and curls up from below..

I was standing outside at work, and heard a rattling from over by Stiglitz. So I think nothing of it. It's windy and I am working at a contract that is filled with scrap metal.
I walk over and put my ear near the hood, it's coming from inside..
I open the hood, and look around, checking things for looseness. Nothing..
I feel behind, and the rattling stops.. I look, and it's a bracket of sorts, as stated above.

I think you are talking about the air cleaner bracket...... Only one I remember that's behind the engine.

Mine broke just above the bolt hole on the passenger side. I took it off and had it welded back together with a little bit of reinforcement added. If you let it go - both sides might totally break off. If it is not securely fastened to the air box it could fall out under your vehicle and be lost.

I hate so say it, but you will most likely find out it is broken not just loose. There seems to be more and more HHR’s that are having the air box bracket breaking. The air box is a lot of weight for such a thin bracket to hold up.

Hey Officer1151,

If memory serves me right we think you reccomended another site member to go to the dealership for this exact same part to who was in need of one as his had broken! Here's a chance for you to use some of that knowledge as you probably won't locate one here .....

Best-O-Luck ,
