antifreeze on oilfill cap

So yesterday we changed oil in both of the hhr's on the 08 we found trace amount of antifreeze on bottom of the cap, head gasket or intake leak? car has about 140 thousand miles on it.Also when we removed the oil filter housing the filter was no longer hooked to the housing it was kinda just laying a little sideways in the engine anyone else ever run into this.

Are you positive it's antifreeze ? Not just moisture buildup under the cap ? The have testing kits at auto parts stores to determine what the contaminate is.

Filter being loose from the cap shouldn't be a worry. Sometimes the twisting motion of removing the cap will dislodged the old filter. As long as the new filter will attach to the cap, you should be OK.

Not positive it was antifreeze I will have to check on those test kit you mentioned the filter did snap on ok it felt like. Its my sons car it has 124 thousand miles turns out the 011 belongs to the wife. The 1 1/4 socket we use on the filter housing on the 08 doesn't fit the 011 housing I ended up cutting a 1 1/4 combination wrench in half to remove the housing.

The socket I bought for the 2008 works on the 2011. However, mine is the shallow one that is made for the job, They sell them in the auto parts stores. They left the notch in the manifold off on the 2011 so you must use the correct tool.

So what would cause moisture on oil cap? As for the wrench I drained the oil then found out the socket wouldn't fit so I cut a box end wrench in half and used that thanks again for the help

The worst scenario is a bad headgasket. It could be just hot/cold cycling causing condensation.

I've seen in the spring more condensation then in the summer.

I spoke with my boy today he checked the oil cap he didn't see antifreeze but there is some kind of fluid on it He did say his engine temp gauge stays on zero when its below freezing outside but then works ok as the weather warms up.

I don't suppose he mention the red light on the dashboard? Has anyone EVER checked the coolant level, both the bottle and under the pressure cap?
