bad gas and car wont stay running

Alright guys, I have an issue with my 06 hhr. My car was running low on fuel, and My grandfather dicided to help me out by putting 3gallons of gas in my tank. So as I was driving the car started chugging and then died. The car will not start. So then I had my brother go to the gas station and get a few more gallons of gas to try to even out the good and bad gas, then add a fuel stabilizer additive. Car started with starting fluid buttons stay running.

Does anyone have an idea of what to do? I need to get this car running soon.

I wonder if the fuel pump died from overheating due to empty tank.

Check the fuel pressure.

X2. I would check fuel psi first.

What makes you think it is "bad gas"? If you suspect you had some "bad gas" you need to dump it out, not dilute it.

Is the CEL on? If the Check Engine light is on, what is the code it is producing?

Go buy a fuel pressure gage and follow the included directions.

Not to cast aspersions on your Grandpa Kenny, but could he have accidentally given your HHR a dose of gas meant for a 2-Stroke engine?

Had a friend do that to his own F-150 once, we ended up draining the tank and blowing out the fuel lines, plus changing the fuel filter on the carb before it would run right.
