I have one called charging diagram that shows what I was talking about.
They need to consolidate these prints. Or maybe they are different on different years. |

Thanks for posting that. Where it goes to the Power Distribution System (translates to the fuse and relay block) I assumed was the terminal for jumping, also. The prints could be reconciled and more accurate as to actual connections.
That was what I did for a living. Correct engineering electrical prints into workable form, then build the systems. |

This makes the path from post to starter longer, from post to battery, then battery to starter. It will jump from here (obviously) but that long path has its consequences. Or am I not reading it right? You are not reading it right. One unfused wire to the underhood fuse box then to starter & alternator. The 50A maxi fuse sends power to the BCM. But your conclusion is correct. The difference is that one is a wiring schematic and the other is a power distribution diagram/sketch. |

The distribution diagram would lead you to believe the crank relay sends power directly to the starter, but looking at the schematics that is wrong.

Thanks everyone for the comments and info.
donbrew, when I tested from under the hood, I used the strut tower as the ground. Is there somewhere else I should be hooking up to? Also, am I understanding correctly that the results I'm getting from hooking the tester up under hood don't matter as long as the test results are good from connecting directly to the battery? |
When you hook to the battery you are getting results from the battery, not the 13 feet of wire. I guess it could mean something like resistance is fewtile or something.
I also found that it makes a difference which bolt on the strut. There is a ground location on the fender nearby. For some reason the ground conductivity is odd on these cars. |
