Beyond the Blower Motor & Resistor...

2006 HHR LS

Stored my vehicle for the winter. Come spring they needed to jump it to move it. To my understanding they made a couple of attempts to find the battery and in the end called the dealership to get it properly jumped and moved. At the time, they noticed a significant amount of moisture on the passenger side (about an inch of freestanding water).

When I got back into town I started chasing the problems. Thankfully I found this forum and easily diagnosed and R/Red the split butyl patch, the fried resistor, the coffee filter of a cabin filter and the rusted solid blower motor.

But I still have an issue. I turn on the switch for the blower and nothing happens. Anyone got any suggestions about what would be the next culprit to look into? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the site!

have you checked fuses?

ArcticKnyght 07-16-2012 07:32 PM

Yes, checked all the fuses and haven't found any that are bad.

Welcome, time for the volt-meter..

PS: There is a 2nd fuse box on pass side of floor tunnel..

ArcticKnyght 07-17-2012 07:36 AM

Yea, knew about the other fuse box as well and they all check out as good. I was just hoping that someone knew of something else that routinely went when the resistor and blower motor failed. Guess no air conditioning for this weekend and when I get back I'll have to tear into it and start chasing the wiring and see if I can track down the issue.

Not sure if there is a relay in that system as well.

This was stored outside?

ArcticKnyght 07-17-2012 05:29 PM

I'd already swapped out the relay in the passenger fuse panel just in case. No difference.

Yes it was stored outside.

PROBLEM SOLVED. Decided to do a double check of all the fuses and found one of the blocky 30A ones under the hood (BCM3) was bad. Quick trip to O'Reilly and alls well with the world again.

Thank you to everyone who has posted before for providing a good road map for the blower motor and resistor repairs.

Welcome!!!!

I am glad to read you were able to find the culprit that brought you all this trouble. I hope you have a great weekend enjoying the air conditioning too. Be safe and enjoy your plans.
