Broken Driver Door Strut

The strut I am talking about is the little plastic strut thinger that helps to prevent the door from swinging shut on you when you open it.

On my driver door, this particular strut came detatched from its screws inside the door, as one day I opened my door, and it just ripped one of the screws right out from the door itself, and now the end of the strut hangs loose inside the door and can not be accessed to remove the broken screws...

Anyone know of how this could be fixed without spending hundreds on hiring some shop to take my door apart?

Can I take my door panel off myself, and would this allow access to the interior area of the door where I can fix this strut?

I have had the door panel off and its pretty easy to remove it. Here is a post which describes door panel removal:

I installed heating elements in my outside mirrors and had to access the same area inside the door that you need, so you probably can get to the door strut screws.

Give this thread a read, that gadget is called a "Door Check", and they an absolute PITA to fix unless you have tiny fingers.
