Bypass CEL for remote start?

Anybody know how to bypass the CEL light? If CEL light is on remote start does not work. My CEL light is only on for emissions.

Any input is appreciated. Going to look ay remote start module pinout tomorrow. There has to be a signal wire from ECU to stop it. Its rather annoying.

I don't know if it is possible to bypass it. It's a safety feature to shut the car down if the computer detects a problem. So I don't believe it's a good idea.

Wouldn't it be better to fix the emission problem?

Well the logical thing to do would be to have the codes pulled, and confirm why the CEL is illuminated, then rectify the fault to restore the remote start function.

The CEL/Remote Start interlock is there for a reason, it keeps you from starting the engine remotely if the vehicle has detected a fault, possibly preventing damage if you ignore the CEL.

If you think the light may have been triggered by something simple like a loose gas cap, you can disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable for about 30 minutes to clear any stored codes.

But honestly, I can't recommend you do that, it's better to identify the problem and live with the loss of the Remote Start function until you do.

I am currently trying to fix problem. Just wondered, that's all.

Like Lucky said, it's a safety feature and not meant to be bypassed.

Since you have identified the fault by the sounds of it, what's the diagnosis?

Well I installed a new intake air duct to see If that was the problem, because my old one broke completely and wasn't there. Codes haven't come back yet, been 2 days so far.

I wish there was a way to tell the car to run its checks!
