A/C Blower stopped. Magically working again?

2011 LT 2.4 Auto

Ok, so we're visiting the in-laws two states away for the week.
The wife and I drive around her old hometown yesterday evening. Everything is fine. Cool air blowing.
We stop to do some shopping.
When we get back to the car after about an hour, the fan isn't blowing any air at any speed.
We can hear the compressor kick in, but no blowing.
I come here and search.
If it is the motor, I probably should have heard some noises before it died.
If it is the resistor, it would probably still run on high.
So it might be a short somewhere.
This morning I go out to check fuses and relays, and everything is working fine.
Has anyone run into this?
I really don't want to face an eight hour drive on Sunday in the heat with a dog in the backseat.
Thanks.

Might be the fan switch.
Try pulling the cabin air filter out and spinning the fan.

On a bright note you don't really require the blower at highway speed.

Thanks Don,

Pulled the filter.
Fan spins easily in both directions with a finger push.

Open the windows, you all should be OK.
Wind noise, yes.
Can't hear the radio that good, yes.
Dog won't die. Unless the thing is a breed for cold climates.

Might see if the finger push will start it.

Sounding like the switch. It is not wired the way you think it is.

Note the switch supplies ground via the resistors. The fan has the always hot side.

Ok, so I went back out and started the car again. The fan wasn't blowing.
I reached over and smacked the glove compartment.
It started blowing.
I probably should have done that last night.
Any idea what could be loose?
(Edit: the post about the switch hadn't shown up for me when I initially made this reply. Do you think it still might be the switch?)

Connection at the motor is my first thought.

About two hours away from home. It's been not running when starting the engine most times today. Whacking the glove compartment worked fine for the first half of the drive, but then I started hearing a grind coming from the motor and it wouldn't run fast when it did start. Luckily, as noted above, it's still sending cool air at highway speeds.
I guess I will take it in tomorrow morning to see about getting the motor replaced.

Sounds like the hamster wheel is trying to escape and rubbing.

And it was working fine yesterday. No grinding or other noises. We'll see what today holds.
