A/C Problem

In my ongoing search/decision process I test drove a loaded '06 LT 2.4 with 122k on the odometer. The only problem I detected was the heater, it always blew hot air. When we tried the A/C it did the same thing. You also couldn't control the fan speed, any suggestions of the issue here? How about the cost? This would be an "as is" sale. Although I could get a 50k warranty on it. The price is obviously right, but I don't know if it is worth the risk.

A/C repairs can get expensive. I would at least take it someplace and have it looked at. Not sure on the price, But personally, I would have them (sellers) fixed it before I bought it. Recharge is cheap, compressor and/or condensor is not.

Take a peek in the lower grill opening and see if you see any damage.......

It could also have issues with the blend door, or whatever it's called. It may always be letting in the hot air. Also, the fan speed issue is probably either a bad resistor in the motor, or the fan motor itself. It is possible that nothing is wrong with the A/C. As others said, it would be best to have a mechanic check it out to see what is actually wrong.

(122K????? WOW!) For sure I wouldn't buy until the A/C was diagnosed. Any or all of the above possiblities could be the problem and it could be the Control Head Assembly or the actuators for the temp door. I would want to know if it had freon in it first.

The above suggestions on the blower are the most viable. Although if the Control Head was bad the blower could be affected too. You didn't say what the blower was not doing. Is it only blowing on certain speeds or what is the issue with it?

Did you Carfax it? Do you have the last 6 of the VIN, If so I can check the warranty history for you?

In honesty......

I would consider another car !! If the owner/dealer didn't fix what is apparently wrong I can only imagine what is "mickey moused". Besides the high mileage, the need of an immediate repair and it being an entry year vehicle would make me consider an 07' for slightly more money.

I must say however, I have an 06' with NONE of the problems discussed on this forum.

I don't have the vin numbers, the carfax was fine. Purchased by one owner who traveled-a lot! If the A/C isn't fixed by them I wouldn't consider it. The price intrigued me at $7k.
