Cam sensors
Cam sensors
I am getting a fault code P0010 which indicates a cam position sensor problem. Upon looking at the sensors, one has a white/tan body, the other is black. Are there 2 different part numbers for these? Searching the aftermarket, only one PN comes up from the different mfr/suppliers.
This link has everything you could want to know:

Other websites i've looked at called those 'cam sensors' (looking at the same picture in the link provided). As i said for those items, only a 'cam sensor' is available through the aftermarket. so now i am confused (and it's not hard to confuse me...)
Didn't I post a link that "has everything you could want to know". I guess I went invisible again.
Please read post #2 and click on the link.
And as always; the title/description of a DTC rarely has anything to do with the problem. They are meant for folks who know what they are doing, not the kid at AutoZone.

From Whoppers 1st post in the write up.
NOTE #1: they are SOLENOIDS, not "sensors"!!!! they are two different things!! Several members have purchased sensors in error as advised by an auto parts store who mis-interpret the CEL diagnostic codes
The ECM takes the information from the cam sensor interpolates this information to know what the cam advance/retard position is with regards to what is called straight up. The solenoid is the driver of this. What it is telling you is the ECM is telling the cam to be in one position via the solenoid, the sensors is reporting the position, the ECM has determined the cam is not where it is instructed to be, throws a code..... Change the solenoids.....

vcrpro3 - the info given above is right on - the problem with that intake solenoid is a fairly common none, so we get a lot of questions/confusion about them. Just replace that solenoid following the link that donbrew gave at the top of this thread and you will be good to go. The link explains where you can acquire a replacement part and how to install it.
Most people replace both the intake AND the exhaust solenoid at the same time, but that is up to you to figure out if you want to replace them both while you have it apart.

Here is what caused my confusion..Based on the fauld code the parts clerks at both Autozone and O'Reily's kept pulling the part pictured (low info folks i guess...) The 'Zone and O'Reily must use the same computed database as each other....Anyhow, got it sorted out with all of y'alls help
