camshaft and crankshaft position secsor's

Hello all. I am wondering if anyone can help with the camshaft and crankshaft position sensor's locations on the ( 2.2 ) ? Would be nice if somebody has pictures of where they are. ALL I can find on here are the ones for the ( 2.4 ). They are not even close to the 2.2. They say there are two for the camshaft and one crankshaft. I don't know because I can't find any of them. I am sorry if I have somehow missed them but as I said, I can not find a thing on the 2.2 motor only 2.4's. Some said their are on the top left side of the motor but again , that's on the 2.4. As I said , I am sorry if I have missed the how to on the 2.2 and if I have , please let me know where that is because I can't seem to find them. Thank you so very much for your help and understanding !

What year 2.2 are you talking about? There are major differences between the years.

Are you inquiring because you have received some engine codes? If so, it's best to post what those codes are.

And are you sure you are looking at Sensors, and not SOLENOIDS? Early 2.2's did not have the variable valve timing and therefore do not have the two Solenoids on the top of the motor.

(Note: thread moved from "How-To" section to more appropriate section)

Hi Whopper and thanks. My hhr is a 2006 with the 2.2 and yes , I do believe I am looking for the Sensors for both camshaft and crankshaft. I had it scanned at Autozone and I'm sorry I do not remember the code but I do remember it came up with the camshaft position sensor and I was just going to replace the crankshaft sensor as well because I see people having trouble with both. Seen a lot on the 2.4 but as you know , that does me no good.

Hopefully the current issues aren't related to your issues back in 2011 when you were looking for info on the Solenoids?

Well, without the code we can't really help you much - the reason being, a verbal description from an auto parts guy often leads one to buy the wrong part (it happens way to frequently!!). Get the code itself and post it here and we will see what suggestions we can give.

Oh, if they said there was a single code, it is very unlikely the code was pointing to the two different sensors - if two sensors were at fault, there should be two codes.

By the way. It did only come up with the one code and it did say on the paper , camshaft position sensor but as I said, I see others having problems with one then the other so I just thought I would head it off and replace them both.

The 06 2.2 won't have VVT so no camshaft position sensor or solenoids.
I found in a Goggle search on the OBD website this information
NOTE: In some cases this engine code is generated on vehicles that do not actually have a camshaft position sensor. In those cases it basically means the engine is misfiring badly due to faulty spark plugs and often coils.

I hope this helps

If you do change the crankshaft sensor be advised that the new one will need to be relearned by someone with a Tech2 or equivalent.

As far as I know the 2.4 & 2.2 with VVT are pretty much identical to the eye. But the 2.2 did not get VVT until 2009.
