As others have suggested, the 2.2's camshafts are in the cylinder head not the block.

It's important to note that the 2.2L does not use a conventional camshaft position sensor, thus the solution to this fault will not involve replacing the CMP because there isn't one. The way the engine controls derive camshaft position is by sensing the transient electrical loads in the ignition system.

The solution to the fault requires diagnosis of: 1) the Ignition Control Module (ICM), 2) the engine control module (ECM) and 3) wires and connections related to those components, to determine what part is faulty. Also, the solutions might be different if there's just this code or if this code and other related faults (such as DTC 0336- the crankshaft position sensor fault) are set.

Both a high-end scan tester (such as TECH2) and a DMM are necessary to solve this fault.

If you lack the FSM or the proper diagnostic tools, I'd take the truck to a service facility able to handle the job.

Pitbull is right.... if you didnt know there was a camshaft in the first place, you probably shouldnt be digging around in there.

A camshaft isnt a simple replacement, and one shouldnt go "bad" in a car as young as an HHR. They generally wear down over time, but many never, ever have to be replaced. The sensor, well, thats another story, but like the others said, it is most likely an electrical issue

save yourself lots of money and take it to a competent mechanic. the electronics are not to be fooled with if you dont know what you are doing

Hi! I'm David Rasch, a 62 year-old with an ORANGE 2006 Hhr. I have the P0341 problem-I have a 2.2l with no overhead cam to sense. For a while I was able to reset the system using my Innova 3100 OBD2 unit. Now, even that doesn't work. Does not seem to affect the car too much. I've also tried disconnecting the battery. Still no luck. Any suggestions short of removing the indicator light. Do not want to go anywhere near a dealer. I think they'd charge to use the toilet if they could get away with it.

I was aware of the camshaft situation. My son in law and I replaced the engine block together. I removed, have shop work done and reassembled the enging in my '86 Dodge caravan so i know a little about engines.
