catalytic converter

Ok so my converter is bad. Gm offered to replace it. Gm decided not replace it. Why? Stupid me forgot that I had the resonator deleted 6 or 7 months ago because it was rattling or something. I can't remember why. All I remember is the guy at the muffler shop said I could get by without it. So, now I either A) I put on a new cat back system from GM then they will replace it or, B) I put on a Universal high flow or universal regular one. I'm going with B so I would like some input on Universal cats High flow or regular.
Thanks

Well for a stock 2.4 set up we would install a new catback setup and let the dealer replace the bad cat! We have a ceramic coated high flow catted down pipe that about one month after the install set off the CEL. The high flow cat just flows to freely! We also have a ceramic coated Magnaflow cat back with a resonator delete! If you are considering a tune then maybe a highflow cat is in your future !

I would try a different dealer. I don't see what a resonator would have to do with the cat. failure you can always try the argument that parts of the broken cat few into the resonator and thats why it was removed.

Well, I guess when the resonator was cut off they cut the flanges where the converter and resonator bolt together. Therefore GM says they can't put the converter on. I said weld it. They said it don't work that way. I said welded or bolted together the end result is the same. They said yes but its not factory. I then said give it to me I will do it. They said no. I said if you don't want to F'in pay for it just say so.

Kinda sounds like you could use a different muffler guy? It wouldn't have been any harder to cut the resonator off on the resonator side of the flange? It would have left the flanges, down pipe & converters serviceable! Sounds like a full custom exhaust is in your future!

Yes, full exhaust will be done by this weekend. The people that work on my car are good. They work on all my cars. Never a problem. I have no idea why they did it the way they did. Probably just faster that way.

Yea, if they cut off the flange, GM will not touch it.

Yea, kinda sorta! They still had to weld around the pipe to connect it! Just the way they did it made it un-serviceable! Believe you me if I didn't have time to hang out I can't tell you how many times different muffler guy's have wanted to take short cuts!
