Catalytic Converter

Is there a difference between the Catalytic Converter for an automatic and a manual transmission?

Some manufacturers are only listing their catalytic converters for automatics.

I believe this is the list:
Getrag 5 Speed manual transmission
4T45-E Automatic Transaxle
4T80-E Automatic Transaxle

HI OldBlue I STARTED TODAY TO REPLACE THE catalytic, but found a problem with the bolt in the manifold.... is it possible to heat that part with a torch to remove the rusting bolt? or any PV blaster will work to remove the rust, or cut using the dreamer or other small cut metal? any advice, will be welcome, thanks

Torch to gently heat the nut. I soaked mine with PB Blaster for a couple of nights, then removed air filter box and heat shield to access the nuts .
If you have extensions and a deep socket with a breaker bar you can get up there from under the HHR , jack and jack stands!!
Disconnect the O2 sensors and you should be good to go.

Hi Oldblue, thanks yes I did that, but at the end I had to cut the head bolt open hole in the center bolt, and now I have now to extract using extractor tool with my impact wrench, super hard and very difficult, super... wow, the stud nut was over the manifold melt or welding, because was impossible. Isaw in the new catylitc convert bring 5 bolt with nuts in totals, I don't know if 3 of them will fit to connect the manifold with the catalytic convert or if need to buy the original stud with nuts and applied antiseize paste?. what is your recommendations?.

Gently drill out the studs and clean the threads with a tap, check the supplied bolts or get studs and brass nuts. My bolts came out, I didn’t need to replace them and if they lasted these last 14 years, I left them alone. Be gentle with the drill , maybe heat the manifold to get the threads to loosen up.

yes I have cleaned and brush remove the dirty part, replace manifold will be a high risk because the stud and bolt in the cylinder head look like rust could be broken a stud If a tried to take out and remove a broken stud with engine on the car, uff will be a super hard hard task....

The catalytic converter itself is generally the same for both manual and automatic transmissions. However, the exhaust system layout might differ slightly due to different transmission configurations, which could explain why some manufacturers list converters specifically for automatics. Always check compatibility based on your vehicle’s specific transmission and model.
