CEL dilemma
probably going about this all wrong but, had both autozona and advance check the CEL ....both came up with P0106(MAP). so, put in a new MAP sensor. checked wiring and for any obvious and not so obvious vacuum leak....none. CEL still on....went back to both auto parts stores....checked again....this time a P0135(O2 upstream). so....just got finished putting in a new DENSO O2 sensor. CEL still on. question is that is there a period of time that it may take, driving, for the car's computer to recognize a new O2 sensor before the CEL goes out....??

I sometimes takes several "drive cycles". The EVAP monitors can take weeks to run, if you reset the codes.
There is a link in my sig you may find useful. |
thanks...i am not one to throw parts at a code....just seemed like the right thing to do to clear this CEL....will go to advance or auto zone tomorrow to have them reset the CEL....and keep an eye on it.....didn't mention that through all of that the car(2006 HHR LT, by the way) runs great with no loss of fuel milage at all.......

You can try disconnecting the NEG side of the battery for a few minutes - it might clear it.

I just got around to Google ing p0135. It's the sensor heater circuit, not the sensor. Could be defective part or a bad connection.

Have you had the battery checked?

Update....
drove it for bout 3 niles last evening.....still CEL.....took it out today.....couple'll miles down the road...CEL OUT.....bunch of miles later CEL still out......looks like the O2 was bad ......so, guess that it does take awhile for the ECM to be satisfied........thanks for the input.....alex.
