Chevy hhr 2008 repair questions

I bought my chevy hhr at an auction and it had an engine light on plus it needed to be jumped to get started. The car got me home which was about an hour drive or less with out stalling or turning off but started over heated as I pulled in the drive way. I changed the oil and drained the coolant also changed the battery but since I was pushing my luck with the car it had overheated and the engine had a ticking sound and was not running I had to slowly pull it to the side of the road. It doesn't start and when I hold down the key it slowly ticks to a stop. Any idea how much it could cost to get the car to drive again the car has only 177k miles on it.

What was your R3A50N for continuing to drive it when you knew it had so many serious issues?

well I didn't have any other choice but to drive it, do you think the engines fried or could this be fixed still for more?

What was the coolant temperature?

What codes are causing the CEL? The battery may be toast, or perhaps there's a bad connection. Get the codes pulled before you disconnect the battery.

Welcome to the site, time to inspect the timing chain!

Some people's definition of low miles is waaay different than mine.

Honestly. Sounds like you ran it hot, then kept driving it till it quit running. AKA locked up the engine.

Yes, that's what it sounds like to me also. That's why the engine won't crank. Or does it, you haven't made that clear.

it over heated and I needed to get it jumped to get it started again could the battery be damaged from it over heating.

You have several things going on, obviously. Overheating doesn't kill a battery, but your battery is toast.

You need to get codes read and post the numbers here, (Just the numbers, not descriptions) otherwise we can't help other than to guess. Get codes read before disconnecting the battery. And don't be driving the car around anymore until we know more about what's going on. If it's overheated badly enough, or the timing chain has jumped teeth you will destroy the engine. (If you haven't already)
