Code P0442

Hi HHR Guys,

I had my first "Service Engine" light issue ...
Code P0442 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (small)

If Anyone on this forum had the same problemo - can you please tell me how to repair?

Thanks!

Any chance you did not have the fuel cap tight? Once the code sets, you need to have it cleared (or a unit like the Aeroforce to clear it yourself). Any number of locations for small leak not allowing the appropriate pressure build-up in fuel tank. Also for 2.0 there is a check valve that can leak.

Fuel cap is tight and okay & I cleared the code with my Innova scan tool.
IF code comes back - I would like to know in advance what else can be wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks!

I got the same code in my '08, it was the gas cap bad seal. About $23.00, took care of problem. Any GM dealer has them in stock.
