crazy car

Hi New member here.
2007 HHR Car stopped but running..Suddenly, everything stopped. Nice man jumped my car battery and it started. I took off to work but something was wrong. I hit brakes, lights all off, no power steering, felt like it was going to die. I did get home (4 miles) and it is sitting in my driveway. Any thoughts?

by lights all off, you mean, exterior lights. Head/tail lights marker lights? Or do you mean on the dash?

:welcome8: to the forum!

How did the gentleman jump start your HHR, there is a specific way to do it properly, and if you don't follow the procedure set out in your owner's manual...damage can occur.

(Click here to download an owner's manual if yours has gone missing...https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...s-manual-3074/)

Usually it takes the form of a blown power steering fuse, hence no power steering.

But we need a few more details if you could please, like are you still running the original battery?

First happening at idle...no AC...Then all electrical off inside and out....after jump start...engine on...brakes applied traction off, ABS light on, no power steering, no AC, no interior lights. Thanks for helping

Any Check Engine Lights?

carolsargent 09-01-2014 11:32 AM

We are leaning to a fuse problem because a stranger jumped the battery. We are searching our manual for power steering fuse. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

carolsargent 09-01-2014 11:32 AM

no check engine light is on.

Sounds like the classic case of an incorrect jumpstart of an HHR.

Also sounds like your battery has a case of low voltage. Jumpstarting may have got you going, but if the battery is still low, all kind of low voltage gremlins can pop up.

Fuse #28 under the hood. Drivers side.

As George said, battery voltage is likely low. If the battery has never been replaced, then you may need to do that.

Check the large red wire connection to the fuse box.

Add to that, make sure that it's seated correctly.

Oldblue 09-03-2014 10:38 AM

fuse box under the hood, as mentioned earlier in this thread

firemangeorge 09-03-2014 10:39 AM

Get the charging system checked. Sounds as if it's not charging the battery back up.

whopper 09-03-2014 10:43 AM

... and most Auto parts stores will test the charging system for free (as they do for batteries).

carolsargent 09-04-2014 07:29 AM

well, no charging problems.....our mechanic is looking for a drain on the battery.

Thought....We had the ignition replaced by dealer here according to recall. Since then we had key stuck in ignition switch because of a part failure (don't remember name but I remember part cost 500. Gas mileage down to ll miles/gallon. Now this electrical drain. Up to this point, we have had no problems with this car in 5 years and 97,000 miles. Anyone had problems with this recall? Thank you for any help.

donbrew 09-04-2014 09:42 AM

Have your guy check the throttle position sensor. When they go bad they can cause a drain, usually it throws a code......but.
