Cruise control question

I just got my HHR and my cruise control does not work so hoping you gals/guys can point me toward a problem.

Driving at about 45 I push the cruise button and the light comes on, I then push the set button but it doesn't set. The manual says the display will change telling me it's on but that doesn't happen. I'm thinking maybe it's the set button not working any way to test that?

Hoping to save the shop charge if I can't. My old car didn't have cruise so not having it is not a problem just would be nice to fix.

Thanks

ONce you set it, it does indeed flash that on the DIC. I'd check fuses first. I've also heard from a few that having LED's in the 3rd brake light has caused issues with the cruise. I don't know of anyway to test the buttons themselves.

Thanks I will check those out tonight.

Fuses are good and I still need to check the brake light to see if its LED

Check your brake lights, all of them, for being blown out. Also, I think that there is a threshhold for the Cruise Control to work, like MORE than 45mph. Had the car been in an accident? Had someone added radio controls to the steering wheel that did not know what they were doing (read the how-to thread here)?

Threshold is just over 25 mph on my '07......

Shut off is controlled by rear brake lights though, so it won't set if it sees a "fault" in the back brake lights. This "fault" could even be LEDs that are not correct resistance, as well as a burned out bulb.
