Dex-Cool

My 2007 HHR turns five this month so I had the cooling system flushed and refilled with fresh Dex-Cool. Is this now good for another five years, or is the recommended flush cycle shorter after the first cycle?

Nope, good for another 5 or 100,000.

2007 means it was made in 2006. You're past 5 and getting close to 6 years.

The manufacture date was December 2006, so it wasn't very far past the five year line, and the old coolent was not the least discolored or dirty looking.

I recently discovered that GM really MEANS 150,000 for the DexCool. Looks mean nothing, and you can't use the old fashioned specific gravity thingy on Dex. Do yourself a huge favor and replace the DexCool at least as recommended!

So donbrew, the specific gravity test doesn't work with dex-cool? I didn't know that. Gonna have to remember that one. Do they make a seperate tester for the dex-cool?
That's why I like this forum. I can always learn something new.

I use a refractometer to test all forms of antifreeze but that comes from my HVAC background. Look it up.

That's correct. Comes from my homebrewing background.
