Driver Side Leak

I'm having some trouble finding a cause for a leak I've had for a while but never had time to fix. It's on the driver's side and is only limited to that area. I do not have a sunroof so it couldn't be that. What other problems can cause this? I would like to fix this myself so I don't have to go to the dealership and pay an arm and a leg for a little water problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice would be great. Also I can provide pictures of the problem area if necessary.

I believe there is a grommet around the hood release pull or something like that.

If by grommet you mean the rubbery thing that is supposed to be covering a whole but is flopping around instead, then yes, there is one of those. What would I do with it if that is the problem?

Push it back into the hole. It's not supposed to be flopping around. That will absolutely cause a leak, if it's in the firewall.

I hope things go smoothly as you hunt for the leak you are experiencing with your HHR. Please, let me know how things turn out and what the culprit is to be causing you this headache.

So this rubber "grommet" won't stay in it's hole and it appears to go up further into an area I can't reach. Would there be a down-side to sealing this rubber thing over the hole it covers? And as far as I can tell this is the only place that water is coming in.

I had the same problem and using a clear silicone around the plug fixed the problem. If I need to remove the plug for any reson it will peel out of the hole and cause no problems.
