DRL going wonky

So i noticed that my DRL's seem to come on when they feel like it. The sensor still works if under a bridge or night time but dont turn on anymore during the day..i have to turn the headlight switch to all the way for them to be on during the day.
Any ideas on this or is it just time to replace the module?
thanks

Just a guess on my part but it may have something to do with the cover over the sensor in the middle of the dash. The way I see it, over time, the sun can deteriorate the plastic and make it less effective.

I may be way off base but it seems to work in my mind. (though it is a very dark place at times)

You might find your answer here:

My solution to my problem starts with post #72.

Or your problem maybe just the opposite, I'm unsure from your original post when you say they "come on when they feel like it" and "they don't come on anymore during the day".

They used to be on during the day no matter if it was sunny or cloudy, but now its a 50/50 chance of them being on..BUT they always come on when its dark/nightime

Not to sound like an arse, but you do realize there is a difference between daytime running lights(DRL) and regular headlights? Reading your other posts in this thread sounds like your talking only of headlights being on/off.
Also, my DRL's will go out when I turn on the fog lamps during the day.
If I am misunderstanding your other posts, then just disregard.

Ok, so the transition from “DRL being on” to “DRL being off and the regular lights being on” with the dash lights at the lower brightness setting - works when it gets really dark outside. Got that. AND that during the day the operation is intermittent. I will guess possibly due to the ambient light changes that happen so often this time of year.

Sounds like the dash mounted light sensor is not getting enough light. Or there has been a change in the sensors sensitivity to light.

I bet the thread linked above would help. As you can see from the dates of that thread it has been some years since I have worked on this problem.

Or you could wait for Summer when the sun is high in the sky and I’d bet your problem goes away.

I still have the 4.7K Ohm resistor in parallel with the light sensor to make my vehicle work to my idiosyncrasies. As per the above mentioned thread.

Oh, just what bothers you? The dash lights going from high to low or the actual lights on the front of the vehicle going off and on or rather dim or bright if you use “Auto Lights” as I do.

I objected to the DIC alphanumeric display and radio lights going from bright to dim during the day – I could not tell when the headlights changed from dim to regular brightness low beams.

again to clarify..the lights would be on ALL THE TIME no matter what time of day...even on a sunny day at 11am! Now sometimes on an equally sunny day they are either on or off depending on what the car feels like doing. Everytime i would start up my car all front lights are on, headlights, signals etc...now nothing is on on my front end while driving during the day..again its random....but at night or dark times, the sensor knows enough to turn on everything
sorry if this isnt making sense lol

I just noticed this is a Canadian vehicle. Canadian requirements maybe different and thus the lights may operate differently than mine do here in the States.

Thus, I am bowing out.
