Hi - After disconnecting the battery, I disconnected the ECM on my 2009 HHR and cleaned the contacts. Reconnecting the battery after putting it back together, the cooling fan comes on, and the car will not start - no crank. What happened? Any ideas how to get this car to start?

 

Loose ground wires, loose pins in the connections, loose fuse box halves, disconnect the negative terminal at the battery whilst you check these possibilities

 

You may have bent or pushed out 1 or more pins.

All the pins and plugs are clean and everything appears to be in good order. I don't see anything bent.
The battery was completely disconnected/reconnected in the process. Still no go.

 

Then start looking for any other connector that may have been accidentally dislodged.

The cooling fan comes on - very odd, that's probably a key piece of information.

 

Check the fuse in the back by the battery and the fuse box, something is loose

 

If it ran before the work was done, then it has to be something you did if it won't start now.
Like we used to do back in my mechanic days. Go back and check everything that you touched.
(and anything you could have leaned against like wiring harness/connectors)

Well, this is not a fix, but perhaps it narrows things down - I find I'm blowing the 20 Amp ECM fuse in the Engine bay.
