Electric Power Steering HELP!
 

I am having problems with my 06 Chevy HHR's power steering. i already did the recall and replaced the power steering motor. but occasionally the power steering light comes on as well as the check engine light, as im driving the gauges start bouncing, when the car shifts gears the entire car jerks, and when i slow down the gear shift clicks.
I don't know what to do. I am going to change the ESP fuse this weekend, but I have no idea what is wrong or what to do from here. I have a video also of what it does.

With all the other items you list I am willing to bet that it is not the EPS fuse. It could be the 2 halves of the engine bay fuse block are starting to wiggle loose from one another. Since you have had a code set, the first thing I would suggest you do is have the code pulled at your local auto parts store. Make sure to write down the actual code number. The number will let you find out the correct information about the code vs the generic info that their scanner will show on it's screen.

And when you get the codes from the CEL, also check the battery with a load tester to confirm it's health.

Is it the fuse box or a dead battery?
Or maybe a loose or corroded ground wires?

I don't understand why lately several people have been intending to replace a fuse, hoping it will resolve a problem. Fuses either work, or don't work generally, and the ones in common use now are designed so that one can tell visually if it is good or not.

The older style ones with end-caps as the connectors would sometimes physically break where at the connection was made to the cap, which would sometimes cause an intermittent connection, but that was not a very frequent occurrence at all.

Sounds like a bad battery jump using the wrong posts under the hood.

It is possible that the tech bungled the replacement job.

Being intermittent sort of rules out the jump start or fuse theories.

If not that, then my thinking is corroded wires, chaffing of wires, loose wires... etc.. Check your wires. :lol:

I suggested ground wires in post#5 but they still need to be checked
