ESC, Airbag Lights
Greetings and thanks for the add.
I have a 2010 HHR with 133K on it now. The car was experiencing a loud humming noise from the right and left sides, I changed the lower control arms which it needed and that stopped the humming noise on the right side but not the left. When the left side control arm was changed not only is it still a loud humming noise, but the check air bag, the service ESC light (both go on and off at their own will) are now on. I believe that the left hub needs to be changed out, but the haunting lights going on and off are really messing with me. Money is tight and a trip to the near by dealer is pricey. Yawls advice would be appreciated. |
Welcome.
I don't know of any issue with the lower control arms that would cause a humming noise. That typically is due to the hubs as you noticed, which may well be related to the ESC light coming on. The Check air bag sometimes is related to a poor connection under the seat - the connection detects if someone is in the seat, and to therefore arm the air bag system for that side. There is also a connection for the passengers air bag under the right hand footwell cover if I remember right (others may chip in here I hope). Any competent mechanic should be able to track those issues down for you - including replacing that left hub - without going to a dealer. |
Welcome!
The airbag warning is a mystery, the ESC warning can be triggered by a bad hub. Neither have a light, do you mean a warning on the DIC? Or do you mean the passenger airbag light and the traction control light? The ONLY reasons one would need to go to a dealer is if you are still under a GM warranty, or have a recall, or need a firmware reflash. Have you checked your recall status? https://my.chevrolet.com/recalls |
Welcome to the site, replace both front hubs.

Weclome! X2 on hubs. Control arms do not rotate, so they are very unlikely to create any sort of noise like humming/drone noise.
