Extended Warranty

Need some help here. My warranty expires in 10 days and in the 6 months I've owned my car (bought used), I've used the warranty to fix the dome light, steering column rattle, and the A/C (all known problems to the 2006 year). The chevy dealership quoted me $1,350 to extend out the warranty another three years. The question is it worth it? I guess what other known problems are out there that I might need the coverage?

there are many opioions on this..... but MHO ..... when i bought this car i made up my mind that due to the mileage i put on a car, and the length that i was going to probablly keep this car, i bought a 100,000 which will get me through when i think i might trade this one..... but with the costs of fixing items, i had a temp dual control module go out of my 05 GMC Sierra which had no warranty (i kept it longer than i thought i would) it cost me a little over 500.00, ..... welp i just decided to buy it thats it.... many will disagree, but many will agree, but you know i dont have to worry about it.

for the same reason above and the ext warrenty we purchased has a payback at the end of the warrenty... if we don t use the extended warrenty... we get the full amount paid back at the end of seven years. so if it a choice of using the warrenty of spending a few bucks out of my pocket... i ll pay out of my pocket for the small stuff... wait for the engine to melt down before i will think about using the extended

I believe the cheapest major A/C repair is approx. $500.00.....
Auto Transmission.....$2000.00...

I ALWAYS buy the extended warranty....I drive 24,000 miles per year.

You get the unused portion back when you sell or trade the vehicle.

IMHO....Cajun

It's a mixed bag on ext. warranties. I got an extended warranty on my Geo Prizm way back when and it paid for itself.

I didn't get one on my Ford Aerostar and didn't need it.

I got one on the HHR and I"ll see if it was worth it.

Regardless, make darn sure you keep all records and receipts. One major covered repair could easily equal the cost of the warranty.

In my opinion, you are better off putting the $1300 in the bank and collecting interest on it (however small). In the event you need a repair, you have the money. If you don't need to use it, the money is still in your control, and can be used as hedge for other emergencies as well. Put it in a separate checking or savings account so you won't be tempted to use it for non-essentials.
