So what have you spent on all the parts so far to try and resolve the problem without success? I'd guess maybe $400 to $500 in parts? Perhaps more?

I'd suggest it is time to take it to an expert that can actually lay hands on it and do a proper diagnosis. Trying to resolve an issue like this over the internet, especially noises, will likely not lead to a solution. We can sit here and play 20 questions for days and not get anywhere. One actually has to lay hands on it and do a proper check of the whole front end, and the vehicle in general.

More like $800. The parts I've change were bad. Mounts were torn, lca bushing was completely broken, sway bar bushings had a ton of play, etc. So not just chasing the sound, but was hoping that the sound would go away when something bad was found.

There have been several people on here that have not been able to isolate where is coming from so was hoping this would also help someone else.

But I'll stop posting.

For those of you that are keeping track. I have now changed the struts and both the left and the right cv axles.

I wish I had change the struts a couple of years back. The ride is a lot smoother now. I had KYB struts before and they are a rough ride and about 3-4 months into them they started to squeak over bumps. I got the napa struts that are prepacked.

Anyway, the sound is still there. Crazy!

Only thing left that is not new in the front is the steering rack and pinion and the front lower transmission mount. Mount looks good. I will take a closer look at the steering rack this weekend to see if there are any issues there, but I"m not really feeling much in the steering wheel. Although, I do get the sound when I turn the left almost all the way and right almost all the way. Its louder to one side then the other.

Man! finally found the thump source this weekend. No more thump after 1 month of looking for it and a whole lot of parts. To be fair to the car it had been neglected for a couple of years and so it had things I knew where bad just waiting for when I was ready to do the work.

Only shot in the dark, that I did not know was bad or not was the cv axles. Thankfully, they are not expensive parts.

So the CV axles where really the noise? No vibration, or noise when turning?
Not the struts?
Again how many miles are on the vehicle?

I went through this last summer, LCA bushings, ball joints, steering rack, intermediate shaft, CV axles, still a shake in the highway when getting off the throttle, turned out to be the upper engine mount was toast, thanks RJ for the suggestion .
