HHR OBD2 codes B0100 B0140 airbag and speed sensor

My moms 2006 HHR has the ABS light and the T/C lights on

I scan it and the codes are:

B0100 that I think refer to a front left airbag sensor

B0140 speed sensor hub

Car is working well we just want to put it in good shape...

If someone could help...

Thank you very much!

Welcome to the site  are you sure about these codes.

I would think that a wheel speed sensor would be a "c" code?

I can't find any info on b0100 or b0140. How did you read these codes?

Welcome to the site. :thumb:

X2. I don't see either of those code numbers listed. Double check them.

Lucky: Dumb question. Since the OP is is Canada, do the Canadian models have anything different in their trouble code systems?

Good question. I remember working on Canadian cars before and there is some emission changes from the states to Canada.

I would think that the codes would be the same for emission but the other controller codes all bets would be off much like the Japanese cars.

Thanks for your reply guys

I used a OBD2 scan tool Innova 3160

I have found some things about B0100. I think it's the sensor on the LF for when you bang into something.

As long as you have a code involving airbags or wheel speed the computer will not allow the T/C or ABS to operate. I bet the transmission is shifting abruptly and you are getting poor MPG. Surprised it has not gone into limp home mode.

Anyway, if the wiring harness to the LF area is in good shape and has not been messed with all bets are off! You really really need a pro to take a look because the car is totally unsafe to drive and any advice you may get on the internets may cause death or dismemberment. SERIOUSLY, this is a major problem that requires a pro.

I do not want to get into liability areas. You can DIE from this kind of thing.

2006 models are odd ducks in a way, thats why I consider them "stand alone" units. It took some digging, but the '06's use some OBD II codes that aren't carried forward into the 2007-2011 years.

B0100 - Diagnostic trouble code indicates a left signal circuit (sensor 1) performance fault.

That one is a valid code, and like any issue with the SRS system, I'm going to recommend taking it to a professional. Airbags and their sensors are not really DIY level repairs, you can be injured or killed by an unexpected deployment.

Now the second code may be erroneous.

B0140 Air flow position feedback #2 (passenger) circuit malfunction.

Nothing to do with wheel speed sensor, so you may want to recheck that and make sure your Innova tool is "CAN-BUS" compatible.

(Gee Don, the "Great minds post alike thing" happens yet again);)

Thanks to all. DONBREW yes my mom bump an other car this winter (welcome to canada!) and I think it's since that time that the lights are on, so maybe she didn't bump enough to deploy the airbag, but enough hard to break the sensor? So you suggest to bring the car to the dealer, or any reliable local garage that are not only specialize in oïl change!?

There's the part #15821098 that is called "side impact airbag sensor", that's probably the defective part?

donbrew 02-07-2014 10:59 AM

Take it to a shop that has don airbag servicing, like talk to a body shop guy and see where they outsource that work. If you don't know what you are doing it can be dangerous. It may need TechII programing to reset the airbag control module. There may be no defective parts, just one event type parts or a programing. Airbags get close to magic.
