HHR SS Smoke at Idle hfter new Downpipe

Ok here s the crazy situation. I installed a new Catless Downpipe and Magnaflow Exhaust system, before installing i had a Nut and Stud that just spinned and would not come out. Tried everything even a slam hammer with vise grips attached. Finally got it out with a Chuck style stud remover and a Pickel Fork working then at the same time. Anyway ! after everything was installed i have a new problem and i don't see how it is related. I drove the car 20 miles no problem, on the way home pulling in the driveway i see it start to pore out smoke out the exhaust with a blueish color. I shut it off let it cool, started it let it run no smoke. I take it for a drive and i see every time i stop at a light the smoke starts and grows larger and larger like my head is shot. Once i am driving again no smoke, just when i stop and idle. And again i get home and want to show my friend the smoke after the car sat for 5 min, i start it and no smoke. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am at a loos, this is a new motor with 20K miles and no issues before the exhaust work. Im thinking Turbo oil leak ?

New exhaust parts have a residual coating of oil that needs to burn off, when they fabricate the pipes they are lubed to keep them from wearing out the bending mandrels etc. I'd say there's about a 99% probability that the smoke was just the left over lube burning off.

Both of my GMPP/Borla systems, and the Magnaflow system that I've installed took a day or two to burn off the residual lube and lose that lovely "burning oil stink".

Keep an eye on it, check your oil level daily, and if the smoke does return...check the inside of the tailpipe for a buildup of oily residue. In my experience, failing turbos can pull oil through the internal seals between the exhaust side and the intake side, and you'll get a belch of oil smoke if you let off the throttle suddenly.

Smoke

Thanks ! ill try for few more days, i would not be concerned except the smoking becomes like a cloud after 3 to 4 min idling same as bad valve seals on an old car. I checked all the plugs and oil level, no problems. But it baffles me as to why no smoke after it sits in the drive for 15 min and i re-start, even after 10 min still no smoke. I have to drive it first.

Also could be penetrants an oil you presumably used on the stud.

Exhaust temps won't be that high just sitting there idling. Put it on the street under the load of acceleration and the temps will get much higher.

I'm with 843de on this thinking it's just the "newness" coating burning off.
My new muffler didn't smoke that I know of but it sure did smell for a couple weeks.

Smoke gets in your eyes

Ok, drove many many miles still smokes at Idle only. And ! if i go into a store for 10 to 15 min and start it and idle it does not smoke. Only after driving and then stop at a light idling. Strange. I guess i have to reinstall the original downpipe this weekend and take it to the dealer while it is under warr. i just don't get it ! makes no sense and i am not looking forward to removing the Catless downpipe

Too bad it couldn't just be the new piping. Hope you get it taken care of.

Warranty? It is a 09, correct ?

What about the line from the Valve cover to the Up_Pipe ? it has a one way valve and it looks like this tube is used for what ? removing vapors gases from the cover or providing air to the cover ? it looks like the arrow on the valve is toward the cover> could this allow oil into the turbo ? if the check valve is bad

Sounds like machining oil.. What's used as lubricant for making the DP.
