FIXED! High Brake Light OUT, need alt part # for new wiring harness
 

Anyone know an alternate part number, that will work in the HHR, for either the high brake assembly or ideally just the wiring harness? Been trying to find a replacement wiring harness for the high brake light, all 4 bulbs out, I was able to remove two of them from the old holders, but the holders are very corroded, the other two bulbs are apparently corroded so badly that they will not come out of the holders.

Both the high brake assembly - part # 15287657 - and the wiring harness - part # 10372458 - show as discontinued on the Chevy parts lookup, and I cannot find any in stock.

Alternatively, anyone know where I can find the 921 bulb holders that match those on the high brake assembly so I can make my own??? All the ones I'm finding have a different connector where it would latch into the brake light assembly.

Near-term, I can just pull the assembly out of the LT, but I would rather the LT NOT become just a parts wagon....

Found a different part number on the LT high brake wiring harness: GMT100-440 and light assembly 16532491, unfortunately, they didn't help either....

Not finding any u-pull-it yards with HHR's nearby, might have to go the ebay route after-all :(

There's some minor corrosion in these connectors too, but cleaned right up with a couple blasts of DeoxIt D5 & Q-tips. Got some LED's to try out! These & the marker lights are tthe only halogen lights left to swap out, except for the lights behind the instrument panel which I would love to swap, but....

I had also asked about help finding the individual 921 bulb holders that match the HHR holders.... I purchased 2 sets of holders with slightly different designs that could potentially work... One of the sets came today:

The boot is hard rubber, it's not a match but it does mostly fit, and turn into the assembly. I would just need some jumper connectors to daisy chain them together, & attach to the electrical socket.

You can also see one of the LED's I bought to check out, they're smaller overall vs a regular 921 bulb. and decently bright, but only about 50% as bright as my LED brake lights. They are only rated for 200 lumens from SIRIUSLED, they will likely be used for tag lights instead... The other two sets of actual 921 sized LED bulbs coming are supposed to be brighter and have double the LED emitters.

Led s don’t work very well in the third brake light , not enough resistance to allow the cruise control to work properly. You might need a 50 watt resistor

Key there is to look for the ones that say "Canbus Error Free" If you look closely at the one in the bulb comparison, the LED has a resistor onboard "24RD", one on each side of the LED bulb, plus 4 additional chips.

Third option that should arrive tomorrow also has onboard resistors. This is what makes them "error free" as to the cars computer, they appear to be standard halogen bulbs.

Still if need be, I can solder in additional inline resistors in the new harness I'm making. This one is just a design mock-up. To conserve space, I'll solder the connections, and if needed, I can de-solder and solder in appropriate inline resistors.

I’ve had three sets of different source can bus error free bulbs, they all light up nice, designed specifically for third brake lights all failed for the cruise control to work

The resistors go in parallel, not in series.

Incorrect, they can go either way. but probably better using a single resistor if possible.

Crusie control already NOT working, so when I pickup from the dealer after they finish service / recalls, I'll swap out the light, & see what happens!

btw, got the other bulbs in & tested out in the LT: Here are the 4 LED's tested for brightness based on visual observation, don't have a brightness testing rig.

I'll probably go with the Auxito for extra brightness in daytime but not overkill, since they seem to be about the same brightness as my LED brake lights.
