Question How low do you let the oil life get?

Mine's at 12% now and I'm trying to figure out how much, if any, lower I'm going to go. I'm leaning to 10%, 8,000 miles is more than I've ever gone without changing the oil.

Well, once I started changing the oil in my cars that is! Most of them leaked/burned it up so fast I nevered needed to change it. It just kinda happened by adding more and more!

Almost 13,000 miles now, changed at 5,000.

I let it get to 5% then change it, but sometimes I can't get around to it for a few days and it'll end up at 0%.

Its really not a big deal, the engine will be perfectly fine.

Same here. 40% is the lowest I'll go but I'm not running full synthetic like some of you guys. If I had used full synthetic I would probably let it drop as low as 10%.

I'm running synthetic so I've been a bit more comfortable letting it go this long. I don't know how I'd do it with fossil.

I've had the 3 months/3000 miles drilled into my head fro so long it's hard to let it go. The first change was at 1000 miles, where I switched to mobil 1 full synthetic. After thst, I changed it at 50%. Got a little nervous. Since then I have changed it at about 30%. Right now I'm sitting at 43% and will probably change it the first chance I get with slightly warmer weather since I change the oil myself, but that may be another month or so. I'm slowly learning to trust synthetic oil, but old habits die hard. The last time I changed my oil in fact was just before the run at Starved Rock.

If you haven't already done so, change the oil ASAP.

Regardless of what the % reading is, you should change the oil at least every 5000 miles. Personally, I change it about every 4000.

Use only 5W-30 or 10W-30. Regular or synthetic doesn't much matter. Use brand new oil, avoid recycled oil.

Oh come on....can't I please change it like the manufacturer recomends???? PLEASE??!!!!!!!!

Cars today just don't need to have the oil changed as much. and the type does matter.

Technology has progressed. You are welcome to your opinion and please change your oil as often as you feel comfortable. Me, I'm not going to waste my money, time, and effort changing it more than needed.

My DIC read 7% when I changed it. I would have waited another week or so but I was having my new wheels put on so I just had it done at the same time. And yes, I do use synthetic oil now.
