How to Remove Rear Tailgate Chrome "Beauty Bar"
How to Remove Rear Tailgate Chrome "Beauty Bar"
Hello,
I am a long-time lurker, and now a first-time poster.
I am trying to remove the chrome hatch decal, found on the exterior of the tailgate. The one which the Chevrolet bowtie is affixed to.
Here's a stock E-bay image of it:

I can't seem to get this off. There are four screws underneath which appear to affix it to the tailgate, which I have undone, but it still seems to be unmoving. Are there screws elsewhere that would need to be removed, or am I just pulling it incorrectly?
The reason I am removing it is to deal with rust spots that have accumulated directly above and around it, on the tailgate (is this a common problem?) - I need to remove this chrome decal in order to do a complete stripping/repainting job.
Thank you for your assistance!

So for removing this chrome decal, it also involves removing the liftgate's interior trim, the rear wiper motor, and the license plate lights? A lot more complicated than I was expecting!
Is there a diagram or photographs out there which might show this?

How did you get the nuts off if you didn't take the Interior panel off?
There are a few how to posting here. The SEARCH tool comes in handy.
You can go to any GM online parts site to see diagrams. Just search for the part you want the diagrams are there.

Hi Don - on the outside, underneath the chrome bar (nearby the lift handle) there are four screws which I had presumed were the ones affixing the chrome bar to the liftgate. Guess that was too simple, and will also need to remove the interior panel.
