"I" gear RPM shift range

I have an HHR LT with the 2.4L motor with the 4-speed auto.

The other day I decided to play around with the "I" gear, and was really surprised that it stays in 2nd gear until 4,000 RPM and then shifts hard into 3rd.

Is this normal?

If you keep your foot in it, it'll shift at 6500!!

......and really kick you in the pants!!!

To answer your question, yes, for "I" gear, that's normal.

It would either shift or blow up

I would not be comfortable taking it right to the redline.

Hey....it's not for everyone.....there is an "I" Drive fanclub though!:D

Doesn't it also turn traction control off, or is that just "L" gear?

You really have nothing to worry about...rev limiters that are a part of ignitions these days will prevent the engine from getting close to the danger zone. Most short stroke engines rev much higher than that safely. The "el destructo speed" is determined by piston speed, not rpm. Feel free to hammer that rascal.
