I replaced my timing chain tensioner on my 08

Some time ago I replaced the tensioner on my 07 2.2 for a start up chain rattle. A few weeks now I have been hearing the same rattle noise on start up in my 08 2.4

So I decided to replace the tensioner with the updated version in this one also. After removing the valve cover I removed the tensioner and much to my surprise it was the new style already.

I already had the parts so in installed the new tensioner and replaced the valve cover gaskets.

It's been a few days now and no more start up rattle.

So there is something to keep in mind, the new style tensioner can ware out too.
This car has 80,000 miles on her.

Food for thought

I am not sure, but the 2.4L OEM may be the "new" design. Only thinking that because of VVT came to the 2.4L a couple of years before the 2.2L got it. Maybe it actually a VVT part?
