The infamous puddle of water on the passenger side floorboard
Hello everybody,
I managed to seal up that butyl rubber patch that I thought was causing my water leak (thanks to this website). But for the last couple of days we've been having a lot of rain. I was excited to see if my repair worked only to open my door and see the same problem staring back at me.
I double checked the butyl rubber piece to see if I missed an area but everything was sealed up properly. I had read on another thread about a large wiring boot against the firewall that could be allowing water into the passenger side and was wondering if anyone had tackled that fix yet. My warranty is done and I can't take it to the dealer without paying through the nose for the repair.
Any guidance on the repair would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Bummer, you might wanna clean the door jamb/ rubber boot connection & run a bead of silicone around it.. Might be coming in there..
Using clear silicone will make it invisable. Either way, cheap insurance. I had no leak but still did all my doors like this.
Do you have a sunroof ?

Try the hinge baffle repair..mine leaked there after doing the butyl patch.
I cut the excess foam out of the area so water could drain thru the rocker.

Hurricane Issac came thru and now the wife's is leaking somewhere. I checked and conditioned the door and sunroof seals but still leaking. We can see it running down the lower A pillar from the seam where the upper and lower trim pieces meet. That makes me think it's the drain tube but it's low enough to be any of them. Just outside the 3/36 and dealer is working with us to try to get it covered. I'll pass on what you have found to the dealer's mech. (my neighbor) so he knows where to look. I'll let you know what this cause is if they find it. Thanks.
Eureka!!
It's finally fixed!!!! The leak was coming from the sunroof, down the A pillar to the front passenger floorboard. My warranty has lapsed and since I am the original owner of the HHR, the dealership worked with me. I only paid $185 for labor and for the fix. I am still cautious though. Now all I have to do is get a new carpet because mine is wrecked because of all of this.
