Post Cause of low fuel pressure?

Okay, So I bought myself a fuel pressure tester.

I hooked it up and ran the car for about 5 minutes. (The car was running for 25 minutes before this as I drove home from work)

I looked at the gauge and it read 29-30 psi for the whole 5 minutes.

I have been told on this forum and read elsewhere that the correct psi is about 50-60psi.

Would a clogged fuel filter cause this?

OR

Is the Fuel Pump just going out?

I just don't want to spend $300+ on a new fuel pump when I could have just replaced the fuel filter.

Notes: I originally looked into this because I had P0171.

My first thoughts are, Is it running bad?, get any CEL codes? What prompted the purchase of the pressure tester? The fuel filter/pump/level sender dealer are one piece units. The fuel filter is non serviceable.

It shifts hard, takes the gears extra long RPMs to shift, going up hill it has trouble, struggles to accelerate when I floor it. (Almost got T-boned the other day because I wasn't used to it accelerating so slow) MPG dropped from 20MPG 2 weeks ago to 18MPG as of today. (Slowly has been dropping)

And last but not least, It takes about 2-3 cranks to finally turn on.

If it is all one piece then I will just order the fuel pump.

I just asked because I keep seeing illustrations where the fuel pump is outside the tank. So I said to myself, maybe it is just clogged.

The fuel pump is located in the tank, so you'll have to drop the tank to replace it, not the worst job in the world....not the quickest either.

Here's a "How To" write up....

But before I'd commit to a new pump, have the codes pulled, any auto parts store can do it.

ENG (Engine) PWR (Power) REDUCED
This message displays to inform you that the vehicle
has reduced engine power to avoid damaging the
engine. Reduced engine power can affect the vehicle’s
ability to accelerate. If this message is on, but there
is no reduction in performance, proceed to your
destination. The performance may be reduced the next
time the vehicle is driven. The vehicle may be driven
at a reduced speed while this message is on, but
acceleration and speed may be reduced. Anytime this
message stays on, the vehicle should be taken to
your dealer/retailer for service as soon as possible.

From the Owners Manual

X3 what the others say. First thing is have the codes read.

His post says he was getting a P0171 - running lean. Unless there is a separate pressure regulator it points to a fuel pump I believe.

P0171 Lean (check/clean MAF sensor) would lead me to check out all the alternatives before condemning the fuel pump, I'd start by cleaning the MAF sensor and then working my way out from there.
