IPC Dead

My three week old (to me) 2008 HHR lost all life on the instrument cluster. The dealership service department says they can't get a replacement from GM, or anywhere, until more are produced. I'm currently driving a rental toyota corolla courtesy of GM.

Is it really possible there are no clusters available for warranty replacement?

I've been through this on two different cars. What you will most likely get is a reconditioned unit from one of their service centers. I imagine their inventory fluctuates quite a bit.

HHR clusters are not reconditioned. They are known as throw away clusters. I will check Monday and see if there is truly a problem getting them. I wonder if they pulled the fuse to try and re-set it first.

There are several clusters listed in the parts catalog. However, clusters are usually replaced on an exchange basis through local service centers.I know that the company in our area that does cluster and radio exchanges ships pieces around the country.

The dealership told me today that they hope to have a cluster by the end of the week.

Finally. They got a new cluster and installed it today. Everything works again.

However, I was expecting at least a courtesy wash, or something, for being without my car for a week over a simple part replacement. They gave me back the car exactly as I brought it in, except working now.
