Key Fob Not Working
i just stopped by "my" dealer and was quoted $65 for a new fob.
i asked if that was with programming and he replied "it shouldn't take (john) too long to program it"...............that doesn't tell me how much the programming is!

and yet more key fob stuff...
I know this key fob issue has been beat to death. I can accept that mine doesn't work and I have no problem using the key to unlock the door. My question is, how do I stop the horn from blowing every time I unlock the door with the key? Thanks.
If it's a 2006, you can't.
Here's a trick to try, lock the door with the key not the power lock button, then open the door with the key....the horn should stay blissfully quiet.
If it doesn't work the first time, unlock all the doors, then lock each door manually and then lock the driver's door with the key. Then try unlocking the driver's door with the key, the horn should remain silent.

I have the same issue with both of my key fobs. The one I use has stopped working after becoming intermittent. After some experimentation, I believe the issue is with the carbonized contacts on the rubber piece. I have rubbed graphite from a pencile on the contact and the fob would work one or two times and then stop again. Reciently the fob my wife carries stopped working too. Hers was due to the battery clip solder joint breaking. Resoldering it fixed that one. When I had the circuit board out of my wife's fob, I put mine in her shell and buttons and it worked. This confirms for me the issue is with the rubber button contacts. I found replacement fobs on Ebay for around $10.00 each so have ordered one and will replace the board in the new one with the borad from mine.
My key fobs have been a nightmare for years. I've tried everything from cleaning to resoldering. One keyfob is completely toast and one works intermittedly (but not usually when I need it most). I was beginning to think the vehicle was possessed before I read this thread.
Yet my wife's Avalanche is almost 12 years old and we've never had any problem with either key fob, and never had to even replace the batteries. Is it because the SS has the remote start? What makes these keyfobs so problematic?
I am so frustrated that I'm to the point where I just leave it unlocked.....
