Key stuck in '08 HHR w/ manual transmission
Lucky. I would agree with the logic off not replacing things that haven't been a problem.
But. It should be noted that the original supplier of the ignition lock cylinders to GM was selling them an inferior part. GM became aware of that and thus came up with the Special Coverage bulletin.
In fact, I recall reading somewhere that GM sued that supplier over those defective parts.
I went ahead and had mine swapped to avoid the possibility of it breaking and maybe leaving me stranded or at the least, inconvenienced.

Having once taken a print out of a TSB into a dealer service department, I DO NOT recommend it. They WILL not read it, they WILL get an attitude, My "Service Advisor" said "that ain't my job". Things found on the internets don't play well, even if it is from a certified GM source.
However, in this case every "owner of record" was mailed a letter about the extended coverage by GM.

So, here's my update: We called a local dealer again, got the same person as before, but asked for a manager. He happened to be at lunch. We told they man that answered that we knew there the Special Coverage Bulletin 12089 should cover the replacement of the ignition lock cylinder and TA-DA! he suddenly found it! The service manager was the one to help me once I got there and the part was changed within an hour w no hassle. Once I knew what I was talking about, they were fast and friendly :)
Thank you to everybody that responded!!! I really appreciate your help!!!
