Key won't turn all the way off

Well looks like I'll be taking a trip to the dealer in the morning. Today after work I stopped for gas and could not turn the key all the way off. I could shut the engine off, but it wouldn't turn all the way so you could remove them. I think there have been others with this problem, but I thought they could turn the key all the way, it just wouldn't come out, or had to be reprogramed? I suspect it has somthing to do with transmision linkage, but I could be wrong. I tried shifting from low back to park several times with no luck. After fueling, the car started so I drove it home. I put it in park firmly (not to hard) and this time it turned all the way back so I was able to remove the keys.

i've seen some other posts saying that it is the transmission interlock and that it needs to be adjusted. is this really an all day repair?

Can't believe your the first to have this problem reported at your dealer. Coggin Chevy on OBT in Kissimmee had mine fixed in a day.

The brake/shifter interlock fails. Solution is to replace the shifter.

Mine does the same thing about a fourth of the time. Sometimes I can hear a loud clicking in the gearshift when I touch the brake. When that happens, the transmission shifts really hard, and putting her in low gear, she does not stay in low gear but shifts like in drive. I think the time has come to make an appointment.

Mine's in the shop today. Key releases about once every 4-5 times I shut the car off. We'll see what they say.

Is this problem only with standard transmissons? I have only ever talked to one person who owns an HHR and they were having the same problem too. Said it had been in the shop 3 times and it had started the same thing again. I am very new to the HHR, bought it Jan.1, 2207...had only 3 miles on it the first test drive. my guy drives the heck out of it we now have 1200 mi. on it....and have not gone anywhere . I on the other hand drive very little, about 600mi for all of last year.
