ok so we both work and i mean work a lot of hours.. so we are just now getting back to it, further investigation shows one of the tensioners has failed... so we are going to replace that.. everyone told us to stop where we are at and just do a compression test.. not happening...

however... we took the plugs out, and looked inside at the valves.. one of them has a gold mark inside while the rest are just carbon.. what in the world would cause a gold mark?

Worst case scenario, a strike from the piston crown on that cylinder, or a cracked head allowing the valve to be "steam cleaned" as the engine ran.

update

Ok mind blown... powww.. thats my mind...

Ok brand new timing chain and timing components.. brand new water pump (figured while all was off why not)

brand new belt and belt tensioner.

all new seals and oil.

start er up... KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.... yeep still doing it.. there was about 1/2in in slack from old chain paired to new chain.. so it had to be done anyways..

someone suggested pull the coil pack to the plug that we are hearing the noise from just for a short sec. did so... plug 1 (far passenger side). when you pill the coil it STOPS instantly knocking. replug it starts again... So we switched it coil pack w/ number 4 (no sounds coming from 4). Still doing it at 1. Switched spark plugs from 1 to 3 (no sound coming from three) still knocking.. So eliminated the coil pack and plug. Only have the knocking when cylinder is firing..

Now what? Im pulling my hair out thanks!

Bad connecting rod bearing or bad wrist pin bearing on the affected cylinder, time to either tear down the engine for a rebuild, or pull it and replace it with a used/reman engine.

Your current engine is on borrowed time, you're going to suffer a catastrophic failure sooner than later I'm sorry to say.
