Loss of acceleration, erratic speedometer, etc. Only code P0573-00

Pretty new here, and not the most auto savvy. The title says most of it. Thought it was the TCM based on what I've read. But the only code to pop up at Autozone was P0573-00 which is the brake switch. But the car initially accelerates, but then it's gone. Eventually accelerates again, but it's erratic until I get to speed. The speedometer also bounces around. The power steering also went out, but a new fuse corrected that. Any thoughts? Thanks. GK

HHR ?
Year ?
Model ?
Engine ?

If you're asking for help, at least include some car info. Mileage and how long you've owned it would help too.

My bad.. It's a 2007 Chevy HHR. I just got it a month ago from a friend wgo passed. It has close 198000 miles. Not sure if it's 2.2 or 2.4 engine size.

Regardless of engine displacement, you should check the wires and condition of the brake switch, do the brake lights work? Does the cruise control work?

P0573 is for brake pedal switch circuit HIGH. When you step on the pedal it sends a LOW signal. So, the pedal is either not working or something is shorted to Voltage. LOW is less than 3 volts, High is greater than 3.5 volts. The switch is a variable resistor not on/off, like the 70's.
Could be that one of the connectors on the ECM or TCM or BCM has a bad pin.

with acceleration issues, wouldnt checking the accelerator pedal be something as well to look at as its a variable resistor type deal as well? Loose connections or corrosion/dirty contacts being the location of the brake and accelerator pedals?

Yes, that’s a great idea, but I suggested the brake pedal switches based on the code that was posted.
