Missing washer

I recently changed my front crankshaft seal and bolt had a family friend who is a mechanic look over said I was missing the washer the questions I have are. What is this washer made of i found a rubber washer that fits the bolt but not sure i did not see one when i took apart and will missing washer cause the timing chain to loosen up? Currently having some issues with this already issue prone car please help 🙏.

Welcome, there should be a washer between the bolt and the harmonic balancer. Our resident HHR part guy hellshotrod should have one for you! Send him a PM

The balancer is upside down in this photo, but you can see the washer

if that washer isn’t there, the bolt might not tighten up properly due to the blind bolt hole in the crankshaft. The bolt fits all 3 HHR Ecotec engines

Washer

The huge washer (behind the head of the bolt) is there i could not tell in the pic if there is a thin washer or not I found a rubber type one in my yard that fits around the threaded end of bolt I was seeing if there was a slim shim type washer that suppose to be there. My machanic friend said it suppose to be a silver one about the size of the seal but he dont work on many of these cars

Maybe this thin washer that I believe has a keyway notch and sits behind the cover. It's been a while since I performed the timing chain project.

The rubber washer is not part of this assembly, set it aside just in case it fell off from somewhere else.

When the front seal was replaced, the front cover would not have been removed. The thin washer that rlee is referring to would not come into play either.
