No coolant temperature and air blowing warm
 

Hey there, this morning I was on my way to work and when I started my car I noticed that the air was blowing unusually warm, the temperature gage on the left side of the dashboard is at the very very bottom and when I scroll through the info options it says coolant and then does not have a temperature reading, what is going on with my car?

X2 on the thermostat. No temp readout and the computer shuts down the AC.

x3 - and the Check Engine Light MAY pop on, with the code P0128 being downloadable, meaning slow to reach operating temperature. The CEL will likely be intermittent, depending on the outside temperature.

So don't be fooled thinking the problem is gone, if you start up the car later and find all seems normal with no CEL being lit up, and the gauges and a/c working. The problem will come back.

With the overnight temps starting to drop, we will likely see more people encountering this condition, as the engine will be cooler in the morning, and they will take a little longer to warm up to operating temperature.

There was no check engine light this morning, which I'm glad it didn't. That would've made me more nervous about it, im gonna buy a new thermostat tonight and try to do it myself

It's not a bad job, just a bit cramped. fyi: the drain petclock is hidden down at the bottom of the rad on the passengers side - you likely can't see it from the top, but can find it by feel

Do you mean the AC wasn't working?

No, the air was blowing and blowing warm.
Btw, the check engine light came on once I got on the road home as well. If everyone is convinced it is the thermostat then I will go buy one and replace it tonight if I can

Or the engine is over heating. Either one does the same symptom. without the actual code ...... However, over heating should cause "limp home" mode.

You don't really NEED to drain the system, just capture what comes out and top off.

Top off on coolant?
