noise in drivetrain

2007 HHR with 2.4L and automatic transmission. 166,066 kilometers. i get a noise from the front end. thought it was a wheel bearing. replaced front wheel bearings, rotors and brakes (since i was in there anyway). the noise is worst around 80 kmph. doesn't change pitch by turning wheel left or right. doesn't change pitch when shifting into neutral at 80kmph (rev engine in neutral - no change). has there been any trouble with the differential in these transmissions? i would hate to have to take it to the dealer. they charged me $20 for a road test and their factory trained technician was deaf and didn't hear anything.

Tires? Rear bearing? Have you put it on a lift and see if the noise is there when the tires don't touch the road?

yes, had it up in the air today with my wife in the drivers seat. it is coming from the front center area. it is likely in the trans. differential gears or something. seems to be the loudest near the right output shaft. just wondering what kind of fight it is going to be with the dealer to get some help with some of this repair (warranty extension or at least a split bill). also wondering if this is a common problem with these cars, so i have some ground to stand on when i'm at the service counter.

OK,over 100,000 miles if my math is correct and your looking for some warranty help? Am I missing something in the 1st post? I wouldn't think the dealer or GM will help out on this.

canadian warranty was 160,000km powertrain

So my math was right. You are out of warranty. Can't see the reason for the dealer or GM to pay for this;all or part. It's got over 100,000 miles on it.Sorry, but a warranty is not for the life of the vehicle. If it was,I have a 1998 Dodge that could sure use some warranty work.

I am having the same problem. The sound for me started by sounding like I had mud tires on the car. It sounded just like the lugs of big tires rolling on the road. I have the car up on jack stands and the sound is still there. If any one has had luck in correcting this problem, please let me know.
