Power steering pulley and belt interference... on an HHR? Mine has electica-magical power steering! In ref to the TSB wording. Mine makes a "PING!" sound after a warm up period of about 2-3 minutes, I think it is the muffler heating up. I don't care aboot it. (my family is from "The Great White North").

Thank you for the post. The dealership said they don't know what the problem is. I will print it out & take it along when I go back Monday.

This is the 3rd time they have looked at it. First, they replaced the belt tensioner.

The the 2nd time said functioning as designed, not sure don't quote.

3rd time they said it, couldn't duplicate, it doesn't do it consistent enough to diagnose. I mentioned previously there was a service bulletin, fell on deaf ears. Today, THANKS to a post on here, I took the service bulletin number in. All of a sudden they are aware of the problem & it will be looked into and or parts ordered. We'll see.

Now 7 weeks and absolutely no noise on start up. Started every morning.

I won't report further unless something changes.

No timing belt on the HHR, the belt tensioner being referred to is on the serpentine drive belt for the alternator, etc.

HHR's use a timing chain which in theory should last the life of the vehicle without requiring service, some members here have HHR's well over 200,000 miles with no problems.

PS... to the forum alshhr!

Thumbs up Start up rattle fixed

Thanks to a post by Chevy Mgr of a service bulletin, the dealership finally took a good hard look at my vehicle, ordered the parts to fix the noise. 1 month today and no rattle. BIG thanks to Chevy Mgr for the help, I believe without the info of the bulletin, the dealership would have continued to say, functions as designed !

start up rattle

Hey Chevy mgr - you are nice to have around ! I have a 2008 HHR LT 2.2 with 163K miles and very well serviced. I bought this from a friend that had it since new. The only thing this has not had done is the serpentine belt (never). IT has the start up rattle like you have heard. Taking it the GM dealership instead of a mom and pop place. Should I get the tensioner replaced obviously the belt will be ? Or should they check the phasers as well. Everything else is good on the car other than the speaker intermittently going. I appreciate your feedback !
