Outside thermometer temperature
I have an '06 2LT. While driving this evening, the outside temperature gauge went from 13°C (~55°F) to 34°C (~93°F). It is obviously around 13°C outside right now. And the reading kept going up to 35°, 36°, and went I got home about 5 minutes later it had reached 37°. All that in around 10 minutes of driving.
I shut the car off, switched it on again and still 37°. I know about the delay of updating the display so I will have to see next time I use the car if the temperature changes. Any others had the same issue? Any idea what could be the cause of the problem? It rained hard today and I drove in some big puddles of water. I read here that the thermometer sender is located near the front right wheel so maybe the wire could have moved? |
The ambient temp sensor is located up behind the right headlight, its possible when you slogged through some deepish puddles enough water got up there to temporarily "drown" it.
Give it a day or two to dry out and see if it functions correctly again. |
My previous car, a 99 Buick Regal GS has the outside temp gauge give erroneous results and I had to replace the sensor. It was a simple fix as the sensor was in an easily accessible location.

IIRC the sensor is located below that flat red sheet metal.(yellow circle)
On my SS it's not accessible without removing some body parts. Attachment 14665 |
Thanks for the help guys, I will try the car first and see from there.

The sensor on my 07 LT2 is located in the lower grill opening, and it's always wrong.
It's alway's off by 5 to 10 degrees. |
Forgot to post back, the thermometer came back to normal :thumb:

Oops, temperature still went wrong today (way above actual outside temperature). Will have to take a look at the sensor and wires...
|
My 2011 has the sensor mounted on the lower "grille", when the A/C is on the fan blows heated air on it. Evidently there was no standard mounting position.
